#TranshumanSpace was one of the few times Steve Jackson Games attempted to support an entire line focusing on an original #ttrpg setting for #GURPS , and it's still far away my favorite. And while it has its dark sides, it is also one of the more optimistic near-future settings out there - it portrays humanity largely being able to tackle their own problems.

Alas, I fear we are currently heading for a darker timeline. Still, it would be interesting to revisit this setting, and compare and contrast where we stand now vs. what the setting portrayed where we are going.

While Space: 1889 always had a tendency to gloss over the evils of Imperialism and Colonialism, this edition had the additional bad idea of having the Confederacy surviving the Civil War.

I frequently fantasize about a fantasy #ttrpg setting based on both German #folklore and the history of Germany, ca. 1600 AD.

Thus, when I came across this magazine in the Oldenburg train station while waiting for a late train, I knew that this was great research material!

Who else remembers the early years of the #Shadowrun #ttrpg ?

I love highly detailed #ttrpg settings, so #HarnWorld was definitely a setting of interest to me. Though ultimately, I neither played in it nor ran a game in it - while I've participated in my share of "gritty" games, we like to balance the grittiness with a fair share of humor, as in #WFRP . HarnWorld, on the other hand, is a setting that is both gritty and plays it straight.

Furthermore, the modules were and still are fairly pricey when compared to other products of comparable complexity, which kept me from investing as much money in this game line as I have in some others.

Speaking of obscure #ttrpg , does anyone else remember Aria: Canticle of the Monomyth?

And has anyone here ever played it? IIRC it had so much obscure jargon that it put even Gary Gygax to shame. Still, I think there were some good worldbuilding tools in there...

The #Planescape setting - #DnD at its trippiest, but (largely) in a good way.

Of all the #DnD expansions to the #ForgottenRealms during TSR's "let's slap real world cultures into this world", al-Qadim was the best by far.

Part of the reason was that the player characters were assumed to be locals by default, instead of portraying the region as something to be "conquered" by player characters from the Heartlands of Faerun. #ttrpg

The design style of Jugendstil - or "Art Nouveau", as it is called in English - has long been a subject of fascination for me.

I supported the Kickstarter for the "Guide to #Glorantha ", and at the moment, I am finally trying to immerse myself in this setting. While my reading is currently on hold, I'm sure I will return to this soon. #ttrpg #RuneQuest

My current recreational #ttrpg reading, since I am currently participating in a #WFRP 4E campaign.

Historical mining has a lot of fascinating complexities which are mostly ignored in fantasy #ttrpg (definitely including #dnd ) - which I think is a shame, since there's so much cool stuff out there.

Take water - you need to get it out of the mines, but on the other hand you also need lots of water to power the pumps that accomplish this feat - as I've learned during my recent vacations to the Harz mountains.

Oh, and if you really want to make your players hate you, read up on the invention of the Man Engine... 😁

The Belgian "Obscure Cities" are a fantastic #comics setting that has Mad Architects and Mad City Planners the same way other settings has Mad Scientists. It was enormously influential on one of my #ttrpg fantasy worldbuilding efforts.

#Drawing and (digital) #painting is something I often fantasize as a hobby I'd like to take on - if only I had more time. And, given how many art-related books I own, I have fantasized about this a lot.

Alas, my time is limited - so I largely limit myself to some #ttrpg #cartography at most...

I have a tendency to hoard obscure travel guides I find in public bookshelves ("Little Free Libraries" and the like) - not only because I am interested in the regions in question, but also because I want to use them as inspiration for #ttrpg #worldbuilding .

Of course, this would require that I actually read them instead of just hoarding them...
